Banned Books vs. The First Amendment
"Censorship reflects society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime." ~Potter Stewart

The First Amendment clearly states the people's rights to free speech, press, and religion. The act of banning literature to benefit any type of religious beliefs is a direct violation of the people's constitutional rights. In the case of Harry Potter, banning the books from school libraries because its reference to witchcraft contradicts other religious teachings is a discriminatory attempt to control people's choices of religion. |
